GZA was contracted to perform environmental and geotechnical services to redevelop a former industrial wasteland into luxury residential apartment buildings and an associated parking garage.  The site had been developed for industrial purposes for more than 100 years.  Previous developments included a Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) and a paper bag manufacturing company.  Former MGP structures (including a gas holder, large tar well, and previously stabilized and untreated ink waste pits) remained on the property.  This submission discusses how GZA and the rest of the project team overcame the geotechnical and environmental challenges that were encountered during the project.
