Concord Hospital New Ambulatory Health Care Building, Concord, NH

Nobis Group was selected to provide civil and geotechnical engineering services for a critically needed $70 million Ambulatory Health Care Building on the Concord Hospital Campus. Nobis provided schematic and full design services, prepared construction documents for this 5-story, 147,000 square foot building, and also provided field engineering expertise during construction. Design work included building layout, vehicle and pedestrian circulation, utility relocation, foundation underpinning, and excavation support.

A critical design responsibility for Nobis was to design the relocation of multiple site utilities prior to the design of the actual building footprint. The building occupies a former tiered surface parking lot, which consisted of a maze of underground utilities servicing the hospital campus including municipal water and sewer, steam, storm drainage, natural gas, electric, and fiber optic lines. Nobis designed the relocation of all these utility systems in a manner that avoided conflicts and impacts with construction of the new ambulatory health care building structure. Nobis was responsible to pursue needed local, state, and federal permit approvals, perform subsurface investigations, and provide geotechnical expertise related to the building and facility foundation systems, as well as to ensure geotechnical protectiveness of the adjacent existing multi-story building structures during construction.
