Souhegan River Pedestrian Trail, Merrimack, New Hampshire

The Turner Group (TTG) designed and completed the Souhegan River Pedestrian Trail for the Town of Merrimack, NH (Town) in collaboration with R.M. Piper Inc. as the general contractor and BETA Group, Inc. as the construction engineer.  The trail connects the Town’s four quadrants allowing residents and visitors pedestrian access to the central business district, residential areas, local parks, trail system, shops and schools. The project had challenging historical and environmental permitting requirements and several unknown site conditions, however, it was constructed on time and will serve the Town for many, many years to come. Minimal environmental disturbance and preserving the natural habitat below was ensured through innovative engineering such as helical piles for the boardwalk. Additionally, Foamed Glass Aggregate provided minimal pressure on the historical canal walls.

In conclusion, the Souhegan River Pedestrian Trail project embodies engineering excellence. The trail’s success reflects TTG’s commitment to meeting client and community needs and it aligns with the Town’s Master Plan and vision of creating a cost-effective, environmentally responsible solution that enhances connectivity and recreational opportunities.
