NH 12 Reconstruction Walpole/Charlestown

Jacobs provided design services for the reconstruction of approximately 2.7 miles of NH 12 corridor along Connecticut River in Walpole and Charlestown, New Hampshire.  This section of NH Route 12 runs north/south between the Connecticut River and New England Central Railroad. The project included final design and preparation of roadway plans, specifications and construction estimates, as well as the preparation of Right-of-Way plans. Sandwiched in between the Connecticut River and an active railroad, NH 12 suffered from poor subgrade material, a lack of shoulders, and proximity to both the railroad track and the top of the riverbank. Over time, the top of the riverbank was failing and inching closer to the southbound lane of NH 12 at the southern end of the project.
